In a matter of weeks the Government will be delivering its first Budget where, in its own words, it will have to make “difficult decisions”.
Across the UK over 7.5m families with children are trapped in poverty – nearly 27% all families. For them, difficult decisions mean living hand to mouth because they can’t afford the basics like housing, heating and three-square meals a day.
The welfare of struggling families must not be sacrificed to fill the Government’s budget ‘black hole’
The Salvation Army is calling on the Government to take action where they can so that struggling families get the help they need. Beginning with ensuring that families get help with their housing costs; scrapping the two-child benefit limit; and giving people the real help they need into work.
Poverty not only harms childhoods but also the lives and life chances it consumes. The UK Government has the chance to act and make sure families get the help they need.
