Every day 18 people in the UK die as the result of drugs. Over half of these deaths involve opioids such as heroin or fentanyl.
That’s 18 people who had hopes and dreams, families, friends and loved ones. Every life lost is a tragedy that could, and should, be prevented.
For 160 years The Salvation Army has walked with people on their recovery journey. We know from experience that there are things that can be done to increase the likelihood of someone surviving an overdose.
One such action is use of the medication, naloxone. Naloxone is anti-overdose medication which can be used to temporarily stem the effects of an overdose caused by opioids such as heroin or fentanyl. While not curing the overdose, it allows precious time for medical intervention to save someone’s life.
We know that naloxone, if used in time, can potentially save a life.
And that’s why we need your help!
On 18 June, we will be hosting an awareness raising session for MPs in the House of Commons to show how easy and effective naloxone can be in saving lives.
We need as many MPs as possible to join us and hear from The Salvation Army Addictions Team – who have used naloxone themselves to save lives. If you can, we would ask you to write to your MP and urge them to attend our event.
Your voice could make all the difference.
Will you help us?
