7.9 million families with children are living in poverty in the UK - that's 28% of all families with children.
Across the UK, The Salvation Army has been doing what we do best by supporting families facing desperate circumstances, families living hand to mouth and at breaking point. Our officers, staff and volunteers nationwide are assisting people who cannot afford to feed or clothe their families, or who have been driven into debt because their income does not cover the essentials.
Unfortunately, there is only so much we can do.
Successive governments have allowed the welfare system to fall behind.
This has led to an increasing number of children living in poverty.
We believe this is completely unacceptable.
That’s why we’re calling on the UK government to ensure that the welfare system, at a minimum, protects families with children from living in poverty.
